Way back a couple of weeks ago Ralph Mazza wrote:
One seldom hears music for natural horn, even on the classical music
stations, so I was surprised and delighted to happen upon what sounded to me
(rank amateur) like a spectacularly well-played natural horn duet. The
station's (WGBH - Boston) playlist identified the recording as follows:
Teunis van der Zwart & Erwin Wieringa, horn duo
Die Koelner Akademie/Michael Alexander Willens, cond.
Ferdinand Ries Double Horn Concerto * Violin Concerto
Track Label: CPO Catalog Number: 777 353
I've never heard of the players, the conductor, or the orchestra. If anyone
knows of more impressive natural horn performances on CD, please let us
know.
R. Mazza
I know it's a bit late but, Teunis van de Zwart plays also for the
Neu-Eroffnete Orchestra, and along with Raphael Vosseler, plays on their
recording [also on CPO records] of the the complete Zelenka Capriccios.
Stratospheric and gorgeous playing. I truly believe that Mr. van de Zwart is
one of, if not THE, leading natural horn player today.
