The worst thing about the mic being at the bell is the sound - there's no way an engineer is going to make you sound like the horn should sound. Best is to ignore it, but talk to the sound engineer about the "true" horn sound (the reflected greatness) every chance you get! Be a pest. In Erie, I got them to keep the mics at least 2 feet behind the bells.
