Hello Valerie, thanks for pointing to this interesting interview with Andrew Joy.
Just a short comment: When I played Mahler 5, I played it standing upright behind the horn secition. It is a very special acoustical & optical effect. Karl Stiegler did that as well, when Mahler invited him to several performances of his 5th symphony he conducted at other orchestras than the Vienna Philharmonic, where he was the boss that time. If a conductor had done such as the conductor did for Andrew, he would have got a big mess by me, but it would not have happen. The conductor had to wait b etween the movements any way & this would have allowed the quick water emptying with use of the main slide, but surely not of the entire horn. There are few multiple rests later in the movement, to water empty the third slides e.g. - Emptying all the other slides would not be necessary but it would also make the pause between the two movements a bit too long. Nevertheless, new improvements are welcome anyway. New ideas about how to conduct a successful artist life are welcome also, the are interesting at least. ################################################################## Am 20.06.2010 um 05:46 schrieb valerie wells: > I found this interesting: > http://high-c.com/content/andrew-joy-horn-nerves-and-water-keys > > Valerie Wells > http://www.beforhorn.blogspot.com/ > _______________________________________________ > post: [email protected] > unsubscribe or set options at > https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/hpizka%40me.com _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
