Over six years ago I had the top of a lower front tooth break off similar to
what the "Other William" described. I had the bonding done at a cost similar
to
a filling, as described by Steve Haflich, and it has been fine. Lordy knows I
use a lot of pressure against my lower teeth when I play horn. I don't like
the
veneer or crown alternative because once you grind a good tooth down, it is
never as permanent or as protected: veneers and crowns can leak and they have a
natural weak point at the seating (bottom) location that can be an entry for
decay; the precision and care of the dentist is a major factor on how long
these
protect the tooth until they need to be replaced.
Regards,
Larry

Well, I've never played in the Brent Symphony, but I sure am impressed that
you've named the entire orchestra after me!

I have a student who just got braces and he's totally miserable, won't
play and is skipping lessons. So . . . I did a little google search
for help. I found an article about a trumpet player, John Colson, who
actually wrote the book on it: "Braces & Brass." Looks very
interesting to me. He's a link to the article.

Thank-you Milton, Lisa and to any other members who may wish kind words. I say
it like this as emails from Queensland Australia take time to filter through
onto this list. I myself am 50 years old,so I do?understand your point Milton.
I
want to make it quite clear that I am in no way trying to 'mute' debate/views.
Just simply asking members to choose their words carefully. It is easy to
forget
etiquette when temperatures rise. Anyway, thanks again to everyone.
Regards,
Brian.

I don't know if any horn teachers have the option to suggest types of braces
for their students but I used Invisalign (www.invisalign.com) a few years ago
to straighten my teeth. The value is that they can be easily removed when
practicing or since they are smooth and thin they can also stay on when
practicing. I think that decision would be based on how much playing was
occurring during the day. They now have versions for teens and possibly kids.
They probably don't work for all types of adjustment problems but for they kids
they can help they would be a much better option.
Sincerely,
Tina

You are quite right Brian,
?
We sometimes get a little to "over charged" in the discussions here.? And I do
think that sometimes there are those that just like to "stir the pot" so to
speak.
Again sorry for your loss
