Are you sure about that 8D? Wasn't the precursor to the 8D the 6D, which has
the usual four rotor valves? I once had in my possession, with the oppurtunity
to buy, a very early Conn double that I was told was made in the?30's or 40's.
It was a Schmidt?copy in every way, with three rotors and the piston change
valve. Has anyone else heard of a Conn with three piston valves??

Conn 2D and 3D were single horns with piston valves and crooks for F, Eb
& D. Largely produced for the military in silver plate.

The original Conn 8D was made from 1919 to 1929 and had three piston
finger valves and a rotary change valve.
The current model 8D was first produced in 1937, a copy of Arther Berv's
Fritz Kruspe double.

The Conn 6D from 1919-1934 was a Schmidt model.
The current Conn 6D is the Stagliano model, first produced in 1935 for
James Stagliano, then a Hollywood studio musician, later principal of
the Boston Symphony.

For further information, please see The Conn Loyalist (unfortunately no
photo of the original 8D):
