Unfortunately many young players and their parents believe that new &
shiney is always better than used and not-so-pretty. I always
recommend students look for used Holtons, Conns or Yamahas, Kings,
Reynolds. I'm performing a Christmas gig with a high school senior
whose parents acquired an old King double from a family friend for
next to nothing. It's a FABULOUS instrument. This young lady plays
with the most gorgeous sound you can imagine and she's recently been
accepted to a university music program playing that old, beat up
looking King! She loves her King.

It seems such a waste of money to buy new when there are so many
quality used instruments floating around out there at such reasonable
prices.
