Chris's statement reminds me of something I find interesting. In my small 8X10 practice room, the E is the most resonant note on both my double horns. When I do my warm up, this note just seem to "pop" out with a fuller sound & deeper tone color. The Eb does, too, but to a lesser degree. When I play the same horns else where, I don't observe the same phenomenon.
