Chris's statement reminds me of something I find interesting. In my
small
8X10 practice room, the E is the most resonant note on both my double
horns. When I do my warm up, this note just seem to "pop" out with a
fuller
sound & deeper tone color. The Eb does, too, but to a lesser degree.
When
I play the same horns else where, I don't observe the same phenomenon.
Anyone care to care to explain this?

This is caused by standing waves between the parallel walls of your
practice room. Wallace Sabine, though not a horn player, hit on an
ingenious solution. Get a builder make niches recessed into the
the walls, into which you place large statues. (Hint: plaster statues
work just as well as pricey marble ones.) These will scatter
and diffuse the sound effectively, preventing the buildup of those
pesky
standing waves. Try it! You'll be amazed at the results.

Gotta go,
Cabbage
