This summer I'm headed back to Baltimore for the BSO Academy. Part
assignments are made on the first day. I'd like to hone up on the works
we will be doing. So I'm looking for suggestions as to what I might work
on in all four parts...

My Thompson Editions only has Symphonic Metamorphosis. It appears that the
one part that would stand out in all four parts is the last of the finale.

Re. Hindemith, look at the opening of the second movement (1st horn). It's
quite exposed and walks up and down the break range in the middle of the horn.
Also, the scherzo has some nice licks - not too hard, but requiring good
discipline. Resist the urge to start loud.

I've never played the Mahler 2nd, but have sung in it several times. My teacher
at the time of one performance apologized for not playing at my lesson, because
he had to play it that evening. It does go on.
