Wes Hatch probably has more info on this, but my understanding was that the
XDC was supposed to be a copy of a Viennese natural horn mouthpiece. My
believe is that the rim was too "Americanized" and made to be too round and
too thick.

For me, it was the worst mouthpiece I have ever owned. It made everything
worse and more difficult. I DO still use mine on two occasions:

1) If a student drops one of their slides I can use the mouthpiece as a
reamer to re-round the tube.

2) It make a wonderful tool for seating bearing plates if you invert the mp
over the plate and then tap with your mallet. It usually only takes one or
two taps to seat, and it is smaller than my wooden dowel with the notch in
the end. I can carry it in my case with my real mouthpiece.

As is said many times on the list, your mileage may vary.
