Dear friends, I know that it "horns" in many brains a lot, but this is not all in life. Life contains more than just "horns".
There are the arts. I miss art understanding within the community of musicians, be they music lovers, amateur or professional players. How do they understand paintings & how could they profit from that inspirations. I have to admit, I have nothing to do with drama theatre and special with modern drama where the text is far too obscene & full of faecalia. I have to admit, that I have not much fun listening contemp music, as it is very hard to find any line in it, well, few exceptions. I have to admit, that I have difficulties with modern paintings & sculpture. To avoid being blamed I look for color relations, balances in the structures so to profit even a bit. Mere technic is no art. And there is the admiration for the expressions of mother nature & the respect for it. We as musicians can learn a lot from it. Have you ever felt the greatness & the freedom in the bigger mountains of the world ? Even that can be "transposed" to our art. I was so fortunate to experience this in the Alps, in the Rochies, the Glacier Route, the Andes and in the Himalayas. Get this feeling & use this heroic or free or devote or even pious feeling for your expression when playing music. How often do musicians lack knowledge about worlds history, antic architecture, classical languages (admitted: we would be very happy, if even professional musicians would know basic Italian or as a minimum the Italian musical terms an its translation into the local languages.). It is not only that, it is also the attitude of the musicians. One example: I have recorded Mahler No.2 from TV, the New European Youth Symphony playing in an old gothic church in Goerlitz/just at the Poland/Germany border. Some young musicians were dressed wearing a pullover under the jacket, pollover white or grey. Some were white bow-ties, other colored ties, some were shaved nicely while others obviously forget to shave themselves & looked right dirty face. This is a typical disrespect for the bigger TV audience. The organizers of such events seem being of similar disrespect. No wonder, sponsors are getting rare. If you feel being hit upon your c.... , it should be so. Would you use an unwashed spoon even in a junk food outlet ? Surely no. So be it with music making also. Enough ranting, but it is necessary from time to time. ################################################################# Am 13.03.2011 um 13:04 schrieb Bill Gross: > " Yes, by all means keep these people in >> our thoughts, but this forum is not the place to 'continue' >> the clinical analysis of the events that have and are still happening." > > Some of us, who do not excel as musicians have other careers.
