When Zubin became our GMD I met the Minister for Cultural affairs (Education, Art, Orchestras, Theatres, Universities, etc.) at a party & he invited me to a (for me) rare glas of wine. He told me that Zubin´s salary was equal to the salary of Bayern soccer star Klinsmann. Everybody could read in the newspaper how much this soccer star received as salary. Maazel got 100.000.- DM (some 70.000.- USD) thirty years ago for a single "Othello" without rehearsal, replacing Carlos Kleiber. Kleiber himself auctioned the New Year Concert rights (incl. DVD & CD & TV) via telephone for 1,5 mill. DM (today equal 1,4 mill USD), but twenty+ years ago.
Well, VPO members receiver a fat cheque for the New Year Concert also (about 10.000.- $ per member involved & somewhat less for members not involved with that concert; but they rotate that). I remember, that Celibidache received (he asked for it & got it) a salary rise of 25% IN ONE YEAR, FROM 400.000.- UP TO 500.000.- Now salaries of "famous" or "well known" or "well pushed" conductors have exceeded all measures, but quality has not been kept or improved. Well, friends, they are not responsible as industry captains or bank captains, who earn up to one million USD a month, but have their residence outside of the country so to benefit from the special tax regulations (just 22,5%) for aliens not residing in the country longer than 180 days a year e.g. Mr.Ackermann from Deutsche Bank. ###################################################################################################### Am 10.04.2011 um 16:45 schrieb Milton Kicklighter: > Now all they need is a new management team and a new board!!!!
