See, now hasn't this been interesting? No one really knows why. I wonder if the
esteemed Prof. Cabbage is on this list and would care to weigh in.

Last night, a performance of Mahler 6 in Essen, 105 years to the day after its
premiere there. Now onto Paris, Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon.

Take it easy, all of you.

Subject: [Hornlist] offstage brass

Greetings from Germany, where we are on tour playing Mahler 2, 6 and 9 for 3
weeks. Perhaps one of you scientific minded folks out there can answer my
question about offstage brass. Specifically, why do offstage instruments sound
flat from the stage? It's obviously not the Doppler effect, since we are not
moving relative to one another, but a Google search did not tell me what I
wanted to know. Anyway, if anyone knows, I'd be interested in the answer.

All the best to all of you,
