A contrarian view, if this is not a "blind audition" the panel could be looking for two things, one is the player that really stood out, the other is easy discriminators. Not knowing how the panel is constituted, this is just a wild guess. There could be people on it who would down grade you because you had two horns and the others didn't. You did something different, it would be easy for them to pick up on that and shorten this list for this fact alone. Very subjective on their part, but stuff like that happens.
Resumes after all really are a tool to eliminate job applicants so the pool of potentials is down to a manageable size.
