Ken, very sorry, neither of the two solo horns in my former section ever played a triple in the orchestra, but we had single high F horns for our Haendel, high Haydn and high Mozart repertory (as we got extra paid for that, AND there is a sound reason). And what´the matter, changing the horns in a program: the right horn for the right piece.
I got a triple only many, many years after Wallendorf had left for Berlin & after our former third died, so I could buy these two horns from the opera for a just a fictive price. Well, I helped the opera for certain things, and instead asking for a financial remuneration I asked them for the two horns. Lucky, but I have never used them. They rest in peace; I might use them in case they be necessary, but I doubt that I will use them as I left the profession at age 65 with a last performance of Parsifal on first horn. It was my first opera also at age 17 with just one rehearsal on the same day, because my father, principal then, broke a tooth during breakfast that day. These horns will become implemented in my former collection of 80 horns & be in the museum. ##################################################### Am 16.08.2011 um 13:32 schrieb k...@poperepair.com: > That's exactly what I'm saying Ron! > The triple may not be their 'main' instrument all the time but I would bet > that 99% of prinicipal horn players in major orchestras have a triple that > they will pull out when needed. > Sincerely > Ken > Pope Instrument Repair > 80 Wenham Street > Jamaica Plain (Boston), MA 02130 > 617-522-0532 > http://www.poperepair.com >> Date: Mon, 15 Aug 2011 15:57:27 -0400 (EDT) >> From: marksue...@aol.com >> Subject: Re: [Hornlist] Triple Horns >> To: horn@memphis.edu >> Message-ID: <4f9c.55b6f854.3b7ad...@aol.com> >> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" >> >> Are you saying most principals in major orchestras play a triple?
