Good points. Plus, I'm not sure it would be that attractive. There's all sorts
of bells and whistles that are coming out now to 'decorate' horns, but I'd
rather have a horn that sounds great and plays well.

Looking at the 'chrome' hardware in my house (the faucets, for example), I'm
not sure a horn would really look all that great covered in chrome.

Hello Carl,

there is reason to get horns chrome plated: price (watch today´s gold price at

near 1.900.-USD/oz. & going up permanently, a policy used by plating companies

to increase prices dramatically, but for the 1/2 ounce needed as a maximum. The

plating

is just 5 my thin (a my = 1/1000 of a millimeter).

1) is right

2) is right, if the brass is degreased perfectly before plating (applies for
all

platings)

3) - 6) correct

Why to pre-occupy about the acoustic properties of chromium, as the plating is

extremely thin ? And weight gain ? 2 grs perhaps. And this should influence the

sound ?

What about the hand guard of plastic or textile ? This has really a bad

influence upon

the horn, acoustically & regarding corrosion, which can be prevented by a

nickel-silver

handshield & a well used microfibre towel.
