Greetings: I have been asked to play with a newly formed woodwind quintet - we are all amateurs, but fairly high level of ability. Since this is a new group we do not have any music and will be looking for material. If anyone has suggestions or experience with woodwind quintets I would welcome your comments. Especially pointers on playing with this type of ensemble - I have quite a bit of experience playing with brass quintets, but not much with woodwinds. I would also appreciate any comments or suggestions on some of the 'standard' woodwind quintet repertoire. Please no flaming here - what I mean to say is that if someone asked me what are some of the 'strandard' or common horn solo's I would list the Mozart concerto's, the R. Strauss concerto's, Villanelle, etc. I am looking for the same type of information from folks with experience in this area. Of course as a horn player I am looking for some nice 'juicy' horn parts, but what we really want are pieces that all will enjoy playing - so if anyone has suggestions or advice I would really be grateful - I also think a discussion on this type of playing would be useful to the list.
