If this was an old TV recording while they were on tour, perhaps, they had an extra player with them. Eric Terwilliger used to play first horn on several tours, years ago, incl. Bruckner no.4. I also played with themn & used my Double. Sometimes, they themselves "are allowed" to use another horn besides their obligate Viennese Pumpenhorn, but the decision is up to themselves. But they use it only for a delicate passage or a very delicate piece (mostly modern pieces), but never for their "classics". Well, I have noticed them using a descant for some parts of Figaro e.g., but we do the same for Figaro or Il Seraglio, if some know-it-all-conductors had a (unanswered) phone conversation with Mozart himself, telling them to re-open the traditional cuts & perform these abandoned very high arias again (they were abandoned by Mozart himself). Anyway, we receive an extra cheque for that & they do also, which reduces our amount of complain against these conductors. ======================================================================== ==

Mrz 2003 00:20 An: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Betreff: [Hornlist] VPO - what's going on? O.K - while I'm on line.... A week or so ago I watched a televised concert with the Vienna Phil. I can't remember now what they were playing or where, but I was struck by the fact that one of the two hornplayers was playing what seemed to be a full-double "german" horn while the other (principal) hornist was playing a Vienna horn. I thought that the VPO only used Vienna horns - have I been wrong about this or was this concert an exception. Can anyone shed any light? Thanks, Graham _______________________________________________ post: [EMAIL PROTECTED] set your options at http://music.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/hans.pizka%40t-online.de _______________________________________________ post: [EMAIL PROTECTED] set your options at http://music.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
