Not only them, but Josef Meinlschmidt, maker of valve sections for many fine 
horn makers, can make rotors out of carbon fiber resin, as well.

It will determine both how light and quick the valves feel, and it will also 
determine how long the valves will perform adequately.  I believe that carbon 
fiber resin is fine given two important factors: (1) the rotor shaft is tapered 
(not necessarily the valve in the casing), and (2) the owner keeps the horn 
clean.  If either of those two are not true, you will have troubles.  But then, 
that can also be said of rotors made of metal, can't it?
