Is anyone familiar with Persichetti's Night Dances? I am currently playing them and will perform them in Philadelphia and on tour this summer throughout eastern Europe. I don't particularly enjoy the piece, though I find it more fun to play than listen to! I'd like to have some more information about the piece, I only know that they are settings to some (rather morbid) poems, and are more like nightmares than dances. Also, in the fourth movement there is a unison soli, starting on a high a (horn pitch), originally marked stopped but in all four of the rented parts the marking has been changed to "muted". Is this standard performance practice or are they just leftover markings from a single performance?
