A friend of mine is a Professional trumpet player.  He swears my the A & D 
ointment that you use on babies.  I have tried the ointment..putting it on last 
thing before bed, and it really does work...if you don't mind the smell.  I do 
not use it during performances or rehearsals--I think that stuff winds up in 
my horn.

This question has been posted before--and some folks believe that the camphor 
or other ingredients in Chapstick may actually irritate the dryness.
