Bozza: "Comme un echo lointain" = like a distant echo. Just play it very soft. "son naturels" = open. This does NOT mean natural harmonics, though some players do this as the passages are quotes of traditional hunting horn calls at his point. "cuivre" = brassy (not necessarily stopped).
There are a few inconsistencies in the markings in this piece, so there is frequently some confusion.

In November, I'll be performing my graduation recital. I have some questions on pieces that I'm unsure of, and my teacher doesn't have a definite answer for, either. If you have suggestions for these, let me know:
Cherubini - Sonata no. 2
My question for this one is the trills in measure 77 (the long ad lib measure). They are not specifically marked as whole-step trills, but would that be how they are played? More specifically, the B-natural trill . . . does it go to C or to C-sharp?
Does anyone have suggestions on putting this with a string quartet instead of the piano reduction? I already know that the parts line up alright . . . I just haven't PLAYED with the group yet.

This has mostly to do with stopping, because it isn't always clear. "Comme un echo lointain" - Is this a stylistic direction, or is he asking for echo horn? I can't tell in the recordings I have. Also, at square 7, the directions say "son naturels," but where does it have me doing something else? I know that I was cuivre before 6, but after that, it doesn't SOUND like it was brassy or stopped. Can someone clarify?
