A King 4 Valve went on eBay today for $208, I think.  They come up quite 
regularly.  They are a very good copy of an old Schmidt design.  You might want 
to get the bearings tightened.  The first valve in mine lifted enough to effect 
the playing, but Plating the rotors hasn't been necessary.  I've played mine 
both with an Atkinson pipe and the stock pipe.  On mine, the first line G is 
perfectly in tune, and first space F is much better in tune fingered 2/3.  I 
highly recommend that you have someone build you an F crook to replace the 
stopping valve.  Having C, E, and G available as open F notes keeps your tone 
concept close to the F horn sound.  The F attachment also allows you to play 
stopped, should you have to.  The stopping valve is really not necessary, but 
the added weight of the F crook is apt to make the intonation more secure, but 
I don't know why.
