I have an unaltered "R" horn that has a Texas bell and tapered Elkhart

I believe "N" was the last letter series for the 8d in Elkhart. For a time
after the move to Abilene existing Elkhart parts were used in the assembly
of the new horns. This would account for the tapered rotors in the "R"
series 8d.
