For anyone interested:

That's from the music.memphis.edu mail server's filtering process.
The message in question was created by Micro$oft Outlook, which can
do some pretty stupid things with email, and frequently adds
unnecessary and potentially harmful html code to messages. Any html
code that could do bad things to a subscriber's computer is deleted
and replaced with the "DEFANGED" tag by the Anomy mail sanitizer
(http://mailtools.anomy.net/) on our system. That's before it goes
through the antivirus (http://www.clamav.net) and spam (http://
spamassassin.apache.org/) filters, and before Mailman (http://
www.list.org) (the list server) strips all other html from the
message before sending it on to the list. As a result, the likelihood
of being infected with a virus by a horn list post is extremely
remote. The down side of that is the occasional 'DEFANGED" tag or the
message that "an attachment named 'xxx' was deleted from this message
because it contained potentially harmful content..." showing up in a
post. Be aware, however, that [email protected] CAN show up as a
return address on mail that is not actually from the list, and if it
does, that mail almost certainly contains a virus. The subject line
of legitimate horn list posts always contains [Hornlist].

Some time in the next week or so, the horn list will be moved to a
new server. The list posting address will not change, but the web URL
for accessing individual accounts will. The main listinfo page will
be http://music2.memphis.edu/maliman/listinfo/horn. The list will
probably be off line for a period of a few hours to a day. I will
send a message to the list and a single message digest out just
before that happens, and do the same again when it's back up. The
change should be transparent to users, but please remember that I'm a
music geek, not a computer geek, and please be patient if there are
any unexpected side consequences of the change :-)

Thanks!

Dan
