I've never heard of waxed paper in England, which is what makes me think
that what you call waxed paper is our greaseproof paper. I don't know whether
greaseproof paper is greaseproof or not, or whether it's just what they call
the paper even though it isn't. (A bit like rock cakes that don't contain
rocks and fairy cakes that don't contain fairies, and fried chicken......)

When I was a child you could buy (if you were so inclined) a sort of
greaseproof toilet paper in a green packet with a cross on it and a funny smell
 that
I always felt would be more at home in the hospital than in the bathroom. I
don't know if it still exists.

Anyway, this is getting unwholesome and I think I should stop.

All the best,

Lawrence
