Does anyone know how fast it takes to make a crook change on a natural horn?

I've been playing in the Marriage of Figaro and there are several places
where
Mozart goes from one key to another and allows only 3 or 4 bars in a quick
tempo.

This is just curiosity - I'm playing on a valve horn.

I never played Marriage on natural horn. But I remember that some of
the crook changes in the finales were pretty fast. How fast you can change
crooks depends on your skill level. Like anything, it requires practice.
I'm not
sure what my fastest change ever was, but I remember my longest.
I was playing playing Cosi fan tutte, and my A crook got stuck. I was
unable to remove it (though I mangled it greatly in the effort) until
the following afternoon. Unfortunately, Mozart failed to allow for this,
so I missed the first act finale and had to finish the piece on valve horn.

I think of Nixon every time I play on this crook.

Gotta go,
Cabbage
