Hi Jinny:
The DK121 is still being produced. You can check out the specifications
(rather sparse) and picture at:
http://www.hans-hoyer.de/english.html
Hit the "double horn button" and scroll down to the sixth image. It's
described as a Geyer-Knopf wrap (Knopf is a Markneukirchen workshop that
introduced this wrap in Europe; Geyer was a Chicago custom maker who
popularized this wrap in the United States). The horn is probably closer
to a Knopf in that it is described as having a "large bell," which I
take to mean a large throat (the ratio of fare in the bell branch up to
the bell, characteristic of, say, 8Ds and similar models), rather than
the medium throat that usually characterizes Geyers and Geyer copies.
This could be a good compromise if you want a warmer, darker sound but
prefer this wrap over the so-called "Kruspe" wrap, where the F/Bb change
valve is ahead of the valve body. I've never played a DK121, so have no
opinion about its playing characteristics. Perhaps someone else on the
list can speak to that.

Hi all,
I have a couple of questions regarding the horn made
by Hans Hoyer, model DK121 as i'm contemplating
getting one and would very much appreciate some
advice.
1. When was this model produced?
2. How is the performance of this horn compared to
other models like the 5801s, 6801s and 7801s series?
3. Is this instrument a widely used one, like the more
popular Alex 103, Conn 8D, Schmid, Paxman etc?
4. Any feedback from anyone who has used and is using
this horn currently?
5. Any other information? I did a google search which
did not yield much information.
Thank you very much to all for any advice that you
will be rendering!
Cheers,
Jinn
