I've done Clarke for years - they're all GREAT for expanding our toolbox of
capabilities. I always envied the trumpet players' ability to play fast and
light, while we hornists plodded along. So about 20 years ago, I decided to
play what they play and see if it helped.

It did -

Arban and Vizzutti are great, too -

Subject: [Hornlist] A Brass Study Is A Brass Study?

Earlier this evening I played through one of my son's trumpet studies by
Herbert Clark. I did the one he'd been working on, #6 in B-minor. Since
that's concert A-minor, that's the key I played it in, too (just an octave
lower, of course).

How often does one run across a French Horn part written in the key of Bb?

It made a fine French Horn study, too. It's well above my level of ability
to play well on the French Horn, but it was an interesting exercise to go
through nonetheless.
