One of my favorite practice books has recently been expanded and reprinted. It used to be called "1000 Fiddle Tunes" but its new incarnation is "Ryan's Mammoth Collection 1050 Reels and Jigs". It makes a great practice book for those who want a dose of Kopprasch-like exercises that are new and fun.

The tunes run a little on the high side for horn, but they fit fine when transposed to C - which will make you compatible at holiday parties if there is a pianist or guitarist who can improvise chords. You can use them for near-painless transposition practice in all keys.

You can see/print three near-random pages as .gif images from the older book at

Cheap at Amazon - less than $15. You might want to have it re-bound with spiral binding so it lies flat. It makes a nice holiday gift for a deserving mad wag hornist, violinist, flutist...
