The WBT202 Logger uses the best available GPS chip AFAIK, the UBlox-5. The Garmin uses an MTK chipset (unfortunately they do not specify exactly which one). MTK chipset also have a very good reputation. I have not made any direct comparison, but i daresay that it will beat the garmins in bad conditions. It is not the overall performance that makes a good receiver, it is the amount of accuracy drop that occures in suboptimal conditions (badly positioned satellites or limited sky view). Have you ever noticed a sudden systematic offset of measured position while passing a high building? Its these things that happen less often with a good receiver. And there is one more thing to consider: You won't believe how much difference the carrying position makes. A matchbox size device can be carried on the shoulder, or even on your head, whereas a garmin device will usually be carried on the belt. Nevertheless, there may be differences, but only at the top of the pyramid. The garmin extrex is far more versatile compared to a simple logger that can only take tracks and unlabeled waypoints. On the other hand, a logger is extremely simple to use: you press one button and forget about it. -- Bye Bye, Boris _______________________________________________ HOT mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot
