Hi Norman, I'm adding the list back on this, hope it is okay. I'm not saying the data is perfect. I was just trying to start a discussion. A lot of different work was done in Somalia last year, I'm not familiar with all that was done.
I looked at the links you sent, I'm not sure why we would delete the data though. Yes it is imperfect, but I believe it was collected by GPS. The imagery at least suggests there are roads in those areas where you are pointing. Schuyler who did the data conversion for the import might have some more insight. -Kate On Sun, Nov 4, 2012 at 10:44 PM, Norman Rathmann <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Kate > > If you look in JOSM this area - > http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=1.7989&lon=44.90844&zoom=17&layers=M > you find no primary road > > Or look at Marka - > http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=1.715656&lon=44.772815&zoom=18&layers=M > there are streets fitting with bing, but overall it looks bad > > If you look around Farxanne the villages - Balley, Buulo Madow, Xirsi - > there are no buildings > http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=1.75746&lon=44.52574&zoom=15&layers=M > > Norman > >> Hi Norman, >> >> Can you describe a little more what you mean by not fitting? >> >> Is there decent imagery to compare? >> >> -Kate >> >> On Sun, Nov 4, 2012 at 5:33 PM, Norman Rathmann <[email protected]> >> wrote: >>> >>> Hello >>> >>> i am at the moment mapping in Somalia and found this Import from >>> MapMappers. >>> >>> Lot of streets, but 98% i delete because it is not fitting. >>> Only primary road are fitting. >>> >>> There is also an import of many places - source UNPD1997 - 30-40% are on >>> a >>> field without any huts or buidling nearby - shall i delete this or leave >>> them? >>> >>> here you can see the different of MadMappers and normal mapping - >>> http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=1.71623&lon=44.76724&zoom=16&layers=M >>> >>> Regards >>> Norman >>> >>> >>> >>> >>> _______________________________________________ >>> HOT mailing list >>> [email protected] >>> http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot _______________________________________________ HOT mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot
