HI
residential = in cities where houses stands, in villages track or path -
residential only bigger street where cars are going
track = the small, good visible lines on the arial image outside of
villages
path = really small, less visible lines outside villages
unclassified = street (even small) between villages
road - never (who else shall clasiffy this? I can do it while i map this
and if in future sombody knows it better, he can do it)

Hi,
with the creation of the TM for the priority cities in Central African
Republic, there are questions and discussion regarding the roads tagging.
We, the Eurosha CAR team, have published a suggested road typology on
the project Wiki page
(http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Central_African_Republic#Road_typology)
but we and other mappers still often have doubts when mapping
(residential/track/path/other...).
We will be happy for your opinions, suggestions and experience from
similar environemts.
Sincerely
Eurosha CAR team
Hi,
I would say we should tag roads with highway=road as a default if
we cannot
state about if it is a path or a track and if it is not an obvious
residential road.
Regarding unclassified/tertiary/secondary, IMHO it is quite
difficult to
tqg this on a TM squre cause we need to have a larger overview to
decide.
Sincerely,
Severin

Same problem in Madagascar. But also using road, we will wait for
years before a field mapper can check the road and change the
classification. So, there is a tendency to use unclassified by default
and to change it to tertiary if we have some other informations like
the main access to "commune" main town.

Hi,
this is the Eurosha volunteers from CAR, currently in refuge in
Cameroun.
So far we have been using this convention (for Bangui and a few cities
taken by the rebels). We have chosen this classification based on the
importance of the roads (not necessarily the size or surface).
- Primary - The main axes connecting the biggest cities and a
the most
important roads in Bangui.
- Secondary - The roads connecting big cities with villages and
a bit
less important roads in Bangui.
- Tertiary - not really used except for a few roads in Bangui
- Residential - used for all the roads where houses are around
- Tracks - the small roads going outside the residential areas
- Path - little roads just for pedestrians, not big enough for
a car
(however, the Centralafricans consider every road big enough
for a car :))
For an example, check the city of Bria
(http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/134),
feel free to have a look at the whole city, it is not big.
We are going to add the typology of roads on the wiki page for CAR (
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Central_African_Republic)
but before that we will be happy for more suggestions on this.
Sincerely
Eurosha CAR team
