We have started the pre-activation for Mali in april 2012 and mapped various
parts of north of Mali. But the intensification of the conflict recently makes
us re-evaluate the situation.

Hundred of thousand of people are presently displaced. This is  a real concern
to humanitarian organizations
and UN agencies. This complex humanitarian situation necessitates more detailed
map and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is asked by many groups to
intensify his action.

The HOT staff is following closely the situation and have accepted to intensify
the mapping efforts. Both Frederic Bonifas and me have accepted to coordinate
this activity. We are presently planning with Nicolas Chavent and humanitarian
organizations the work to be done, the imagery and other data needed to respond
to this situation.

We will concentrate on various cities and the roads used to provide
humanitarian relief. You will find new jobs already added to the Task Manager
for Mali. See http://tasks.hotosm.org/#all/Mali

The wiki coordination page will also be updated. See
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2012_Mali_Crisis#Things_to_do

Finally, note that we plan to move officially to an Humanitarian Activation for
Mali. We should make the point shortly on this.
