Hello again HOT list,

We are continuing to map the Indian state of Uttarakhand in response to the
early mosoon flooding that occurred there and which has so far claimed an
estimated 5,000 lives. We have had some meetings with several groups who
are responding to or coordinating this effort in various ways. I wanted to
start this email thread to allow them to list their needs and priorities as
well as inform the HOT community that we do still need help on this
Humanitarian Mapping Project (HMP) and will probably be involved with this
one for a while going forward.

The current priority from a HOT point of view is to complete locating the
villages in the affected areas. Currently we are just trying to draw
landuse=residential areas around all the villages we can identify in the
Bing imagery. There is a task manager job for this here:
http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/274

That job covers 4 districts in the state of Uttarakhand. The highest
priority district of the 4 is the Chamoli district which is the easternmost
of the 4, so the best approach would be to work starting from the east and
working towards the west on that task manager job.

Thank you for your cooperation already, and we hope that people will
continue to work on this response. Due to continued rains and damaged
roads the aid organizations responding are still getting situated and are
only just now beginning to make inroads towards addressing some of the
population's needs, so we expect they will continue to need our assistance
for a while going forward.
