I also have proposed recently, at the Tech WG meeting, a Top menu bar that
would contribute to present the various HOT pages as a unified project (ie.
blog, Task Manager, Export, etc.) and simply inform people about the various
aspects of HOT projects.
This is a simple way to better document information and let people find their
way rapidly, either if they are interested to learn about projects, to learn
how to contribute, to lookup rapidly at the documentation (wiki, tutorials), to
find how they can export data, etc.)
This should surely necessitate a bit of thinking from people involved in
various aspects of HOT.

I agree with you Mike.
I took a look at google analytics on the website and, as seen by the pages that
people visit, the website attracts (1) people that want to learn about HOT (via
the "about" page) and (2) people that want to get involved.
Therefore, I think we should include more information about HOT, where we have
worked and how you can get involved on the homepage.
I envision an interactive map (OSM of course) with markers and pop-ups showing
where and what HOT has been doing. These pop-ups/column would have links to
the task manager (so that people can get more involved).
I think we should make it easier for volunteers to learn how to volunteer
digitally through www.learnosm.org, the tasking manager, mailing list, etc.
That needs to be more prevalent on the site.
Lastly, I think that the community and people involved should also be
highlighted via a community page. Not quite sure what it would look like, but
would include more blurbs about HOT members and have their hotosm email
accounts. This would be super useful because it could take a lot of the emails
away from just [email protected] and distribute it more to people in specific
areas.
1. interactive map (blurbs about projects, etc) with blogs*
2. digital volunteering (learnosm, tasking manager)*
3. project pages
4. faces of HOT*, about HOT community, board, staff, etc
5. History and about of HOT
*new editions
I am open to thoughts, comments and feedback.
Thank you for taking the time to read my brainstorm!
