I received a proposition for collaboration from UN Volunteers (UNV) to
participate to Crowdsourcing activities. Since UNV has volunteers from West
Africa, this could help to add information about infrastructures, roads, street
names and villages.
UNV has
8,000 active volunteers in the field but my main interest is the 380,000
e-volunteers that they have registered in their on-line volunteer
database-- (1,622 IN Sierra Leone, 1,749 in Liberia, 899 in Guinee and
14,600 in Nigeria). These volunteers have until recently been working on very
specific assignments—translating material into many languages,
developing web-sites and computer applications, coaching NGO’s on
management.

Non-profit organizations, including UN Organizations wishing to use the
volunteers register with UNV and then post requests on the web site –UNV
manages
the responses—but any management of the volunteers and their work is
left to the organization which “employs” them.

If you are interested to volunteer and develop such a project with UNV,
including management and training, please contact me.
