Dion,
For the Haiyan earthquake or other previous disasters, we did enter information
about road blockages.
We should do the same for the Nepal earthquake. We have to discuss we the
various field organizations to provide the info or update the OSM database
directly.
For GIS analysis, you simply need to know which tags are used. We should be
able to provide this.
The various navigation tools based on OSM should know how to interpret this
info about road practicability and blockages.
And this list is the place to exchange and discuss about this. People like
Andrew, we both coordinate with the UN agencies and the international
organizations, and participate to the discussions on the list.

Thanks all. I feel a little silly because it was that web page that led me to
this mailing list. Somehow I missed that very obvious part about other formats
:)
So I'm pouring over this information. I guess what I'm missing - what should I
look for to determine how roads, airfields, etc. have been affected by the
earthquake and aftershocks? I work for logisticians, so they're curious how
they would move stuff (air/land/waterways).
Thanks!

Hello Dion,
On this page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2015_Nepal_earthquake you also
can download in other format. If you're using QGIS, I would suggest you
download in ESRI Shapefiles (SHP) format. Then you can save the layer using
save as function in QGIS to any other formats you need (including KML for
Google Earth, MMQGIS plugin also useful for exporting data to KML).
Hope this helpful for you.
CheersEmir

Quick question - is this data available in anything other than OBF? I'm in the
U.S. Army, and I'm trying to find the best source of information on what's
happening out there. Seems like this is a great resource, but no android
devices. We're possibly sending people out, so trying to get a good feel on
preparing them.
Thanks in advance. I'm pretty comfortable with data conversions, but OBF
appears to be very specific, and haven't seen any conversions tools from this
format. I use Google Earth at work and GE/QGIS at home, so KML or OSM would be
great...
Thanks,
Dion

Got it on the tablet and will be going on others in the coming days. We are
deploying a bunch of folks.

No need to. It is a community effort and all I can think about are the poor
souls in Nepal.
I set up the batch process;
http://mapcache.org/downloads/osmand/Nepal_special_2.obf will now be
regenerated every 30 minutes too.
Good luck to all the boots on the ground!

Nice work Milo. If HOT had an award for doing good work, you would be
a candidate to receive it. :)
