Yes but it clutters up the messages. Do you really want to say well done to someone with 5,000+ OSM edits to their name?
In general I message the new ones with feedback, first five get something, after that you get nudged if your work doesn't follow the instructions or the wiki guidelines. Something like added 43 settlements. The message gets through. Squaring buildings isn't really a big deal there is a wiki somewhere with how to validate that has the keystrokes, if you find one not square in JOSM select buildings nodes:-7 I think it is, select user within then hit the q key. For the amount of effort to square them in iD I don't think its really worth it when I can square a hundred in a few seconds. I might mention JOSM and the building plugin would square your buildings and be faster.
