I fail to see where Buddy's assumption that these bluebird/swallow
tattoos are somehow a product of incarceration. It does not compute.

Maybe these lads like the look, are aware of the symbolism, have been
or are sailors, or could actually be involved in prisons and jails.

This discussion was most illuminating for me and it is almost worthy
of the character in Dan Brown's novels played by Tom Hanks who is
involved with symbolism of all sorts.

I find the tattoo to be most pleasing on a fit and muscled male body
of a certain younger age and let's hope it is not taken up by women
because it adds a note of tender playfulness to an otherwise hard and
virile canvas.
