Howdy all,

This came across another list I am subscribed to, but I thought it might be of
interest to some of
the folks on this list as well.

Take Care,

Seth

Subject: [HJUG] Last Call For Guaranteed T-shirt - Houston Techfest Sat 9/13 -
FREE Event with 3
Java Tracks / 15 sessions this year (register by 8/31 for the shirt).

Last year over 500 Houston area software developers and thought leaders
gathered for a day of
in-depth technical learning, filled with over 20 instructional presentations,
and endless
opportunities to network with friends and peers.

This year the learning continues, and promises to be even better than before.
Area technology group
leaders are proud to announce that the Houston TechFest will be taking place on
September 13th at
the University of Houston Main campus.

The event has expanded considerably, as this year we are offering more than 50
technology
presentations ranging from the product focused; Microsoft's Silverlight, Linq,
and Oracle to
methodology discussions on Scrum, Agile Development, and Exception Handling.
There will even be
sessions on robotics and video game development. The entire schedule can be
found at
http://www.houstontechfest.com/dotnetnuke/HoustonTechFest/Agenda/tabid/55/Default.aspx

 > .

The presentations and technical training sessions are given by professional
developers and thought
leaders in the Houston IT community. The Keynote address will be given by Sang
Shin, a Technology
architect, consultant, and evangelist with Sun Microsystems.

This is truly the single most important, Must Attend event for any software
developer in the Houston
Area this year. For complete details, please visit
http://www.HoustonTechFest.com.

Note: This year we have three full Java Tracks with 15 great sessions on topics
such as Concurrent
programming, exception handling, Spring, Java FX, Google Web Toolkit, etc.

If you still need a reason to go, here’s 10 reasons why you should go to
Techfest this year:

10. The event is completely free (lunch is provided).
9 You get to attend talks from speakers from companies such as Sun, Microsoft,
and Oracle in
addition to local speakers from the area.
8. You get a free t-shirt (only guaranteed if you register early - by August
31st)
7. You get to talk to your peers about current topics.
6. Lunch is provided.
5. There are Twelve Tracks running at the same time to give you several
sessions to choose from.
4. We have over 55 different sessions throughout the day
3. Sang Shin from Sun Microsystems is going to be giving a great keynote.
2. You will have a valid excuse to get out of mowing the lawn that day or doing
other housework.
1. One of the benefits of the structure of the event is that no matter where
you are on the learning
curve, there is knowledge to be gained that can help to make you a better
rounded IT professional.

If you know of anyone who is not on the list, and would be interested in going,
please forward this
email to them.

Feel free to contact me at (dan AT slinestop.com ) if you need more information.

We hope to see you there!!!

We are also looking for some volunteers for the event, so if you are planning
on going to the event,
we could use your help. Note: You don’t have volunteer for the entire day.
