I would have to politely disagree, maybe, with Robert on philosophical grounds. Stored procedures have their place when speed is critical. Otherwise, business logic should be kept in the middleware, in components, where it can be properly and easily managed. A few SP's are not a problem. Get a few hundred and management is a nightmare. Get a few thousand and - well I have two friends who are getting rich with a consulting firm that specializes in removing SP's and putting the logic back into ColdFusion or .net. They have told me that on several occasions the companies that hired them were close to breaking down because they had lost control over their software. One very large manufacturing firm actually shut down for 6 weeks.
That all seems a bit extreme but I have to say I don't know of good tools to manage SP's. That could be ignorance on my part, but, build your tables as objects, build components (objects) to match them with CRUD and other needed methods, and life is easy. As to the OPs original problem: CF typing doesn't match up perfectly with all the different databases. Just try some other, similar, datatypes until one of them works. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the "Houston ColdFusion Users' Group" discussion list.
