All, I changed the subject to better reflect our discussion. Thanks Eddie! That does cover how one would make a copy of a SQLite database without taking it offline, but it still doesn't address how one would get the data synchronized back into the SQLite database, as it appears that the destination database in that example is a new, blank DB.
My current plan is to wrap all of the items we discussed into a simple note taking application that one could run in a browser, either on a desktop or on mobile device. The application is going to store all of the data in SQLite tables in the browser, and then sync the data with the server in the background via AJAX and JSON. As I mentioned, I am sure that someone has already wrapped up this functionality into nice packages, but my google-fu must be lacking lately because I haven't been able to find any good resources. So my goal here is to make this a proof of concept and share it with the group (and I might even have to resurrect my blog to share it globally as well :) Mike Demahy and I are planning to try to get a group together to go see a movie sometime in the next couple of weeks. Would anyone like to join us? No tentative date or movie chosen yet, but the general plan will be meet for dinner/drinks/chat, then a movie. Now that I have a better handle on this example app, it occurs to me that this may be something that would be suited well for a hands-on workshop, where we all bring laptops and we all go through the process to build a working app based off my template and notes, so we can all discuss the process and get hands-on experience. Would anyone be interested in something like that? --Ken On Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 9:49 AM, Eddie Pequeno <[email protected]>wrote: > From looking a the documentation it looks like there is a way to use a > backup feature that may be helpful in the database synchronization. > There is an example that runs a backup without a read lock. > > http://www.sqlite.org/backup.html > > Look for the heading: Example 2: Online Backup of a Running Database > > Here is part of the description: > "If the source database is not an in-memory database, and the write is > performed from within the same process as the backup operation and uses the > same database handle (pDb), then the destination database (the one opened > using connection pFile) is automatically updated along with the source." > > Also, SQLite does support triggers. > > -Eddie > > > > > *From:* "Ken Auenson, II" <[email protected]> > *To:* [email protected] > *Sent:* Friday, September 16, 2011 8:42 AM > *Subject:* Re: [houcfug] info for Ken, but maybe helpful for others > > No problem! > It's the thought that counts! lol > Btw, I am going to write up everything i talked about at the meeting and > plan to send it out this weekend to give everyone a starting point with > using sqlite in the browser. > --Ken > On Sep 16, 2011 8:31 AM, "Mark Davis" <[email protected]> wrote: > > Ken, > > > > Yes, sorry , I did paste the wrong link.
