We talked about the current licensing limitation regarding scaling ColdFusion in the cloud tonight (requires Enterprise; limit of 10 instances per license)
What about the next version of ColdFusion? Will we see some changes there? I think so - I predict Adobe will at the very least enable Standard to run in the cloud. Check out this slide from Terry Ryan's keynote at cf.Objective() ANZ : https://picasaweb.google.com/116892362014843420640/TryanKeynote?authuser=0&feat=directlink#5675837478823869746 (From Mike Henke's blog - see more at http://www.henke.ws/post.cfm/coldfusion-news-from-cfoanz-keynote-twister-thunder-more) The text is a bit hard to read, but it says: "Business around pricing, licensing, and access (through cloud Process innovations) will eliminate the roadblocks for new users trying out the platform – to access the latest technology." - Tridib Chowdhury, Adobe Director of Product for ColdFusion This might refer to a subscription model (similar to what is currently available in CS5.5), though I believe it refers to a cloud pricing more attainable than what is in place today.
