Hi Mark! Long time no speak! This thing is definitely still on, although
not as active as it was in past years. I was just thinking that this group
is nearly 20 years old already. I remember the early years when you were
leading and we had Ben Forta come visit us nearly every year, good times!

Anyhow, I am familiar with VTG, I’ve been here almost 12 years and it has
been great. When I started back in 2005 there was one other developer
besides me, now there are ten and we are looking for more. Most of us have
been here 5 to 14 years and the newer guys look like they are not going
anywhere soon.

This place has been building up its IT & programming departments for years
so there may be a misconception about there being turnover here. Since
we’ve had ads up looking for developers over the years, some may perceive
that we are turning over guys and that’s not the case. Not everyone has
stayed of course, in the last 3 years we’ve had a couple of youngsters who
didn’t last too long, mainly due to being over whelmed or intimidated by
the amount of work here. Good programmers have no issues making a home
here though ;-)

This is a private company so things are definitely a bit more relaxed than
a typical strict corporate department. We have offices as opposed to cubes
so you have your own work space and this is definitely a drama-free zone.
There’s no deadlines to projects or TPS reports to file, a status report is
usually handled with a head poking in the door, and we all go to lunch as a
group at least every quarter – or when we have a new guy!

Benefits & pay are in line with the standard, and being a travel company
there are definite perks. I never traveled before coming here, but trust
me my passport is worn out now LOL Most everyone in management here is
very cool and there’s no yelling or friction over projects, people like
that do not last here. There are over 600 travel agents and they are a
different story, they have more tales of craziness but that’s sales for
you. They have their own floors of the building and we have ours so we
work in peace!

I hope this gives you a better picture of the place than some second-hand
info that may not be too accurate. Feel free to hit me up with any
questions you may have. This place has a lot of work and is constantly
advancing and building, so it’s not a place for slackers. The big wigs
here have ideas and visions and as developers we bring those to life.

Good luck in whatever direction you end up going!

-James
