Was talking with Robert and Nicolas last night about old an old school mud. This is a telnet game that is pretty sophisticated for text, based around the FASA game Battletech.
As far as I know frontierlands has the only one left still running but has hardly any attendance. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/MUX There are some graphical clients that just subsume the telnet information.
