If Ganglia went with open/solaris - it would be beyond cool. It might be somewhat burdensome to install (round robin database tool; which in turn requires various png/graphics libraries) but if you guys succeed in making it straightforward to deploy it will be awesome.
PS for our Linux clusters I mess with parsing /proc info files (e.g., meminfo for cached, total, free low/high memories) to maintain service similar to Ganglia. it was easier to write ad hoc awk/sed/Bash parsers to mimic rrdtool than to maintain the Ganglia itself (== upgrade the distros.) also I wanted to ensure very non intrusive least resource consuming monitoring, not to interfere with real tasks running on clusters.
