1) Is the HP DesignJet130 running only up to 28ml cartridges??? - why not the market soft-spot of 55ml?! Is there a way to modify for canister feed? The old HP jets run around 40ml - why not push to 55ml for these mid-range formats? We have been using a combination of four 13x19 format printers to produce digital artwork from photography, scanned art, hi-rez photos of art and 3D art produced from 3D-CAD programs (StudioMax/Bryce). Our current crop of printers are 3HP's (1200, 1220 & Photo 8750) and 1Epson (2200). We use the Monaco EZ color management system and we have no RIP. For larger projects (13x19+) we get wholesale by sub-contracting out to commercial vendors with Epson 9600s+ or HP 5500s with RTG (Ready-To- Go) pre-prepared/pre-profiled files. As you might imagine - the cost of cartridges on these low-end machines can run up quite a costly tab - especially if the image is heavy-set on one value (i.e. red/magenta or blue/cyan). Price-wise an Epson 9600/9800 is well within reach of the HP 130 for better colorfastness and size BUT my experience with ALL Epson printers thus far is that they are very high-maintenance unless running high volume and the color cartridges are very short-lived compared to any HP. The notorious Epson color- shift seems to have been solved with the new UC (UltraChrome) ink sets - but still, while some seem to like the deep velvet black coming off the Epsons - it still looks WAY too unnatural for our purposes.
