Eric,
You make a good point about profiles. I too enjoy great success with the
standard OEM profiles and I also have several Pigment and Dye printers. I
review of my prints from both Ink types I see little difference in the tonal
and image quality. I do notice a little more saturated look in the dye
printer. And the luminance is generally brighter on the dye than the pigment
printer.

You are also correct in that spending money is no assurance on success of a
print.
