My DJ 130 arrives today, and it will be my first large format printer. I appreciate the feedback from this group, as it helped me decide it was the right printer for me.
As much as I would love for it to print dead-on accurate colors for proofing purposes right out of the box, that sounds like too much to ask for a relatively inexpensive large-format machine. In my own (limited) experience, I've found it often takes a lot of time tweaking and experimenting to get anything close to accurate color, particularly on a printer that isn't designed specifically for high-end color proofing (regardless of what the HP marketing materials say about color accuracy--doesn't every printer tout it's accuracy?). Hell, if the 130 could produce accurate color out of the box, I guess there wouldn't be such universal complaining about trying to get a decent neutral gray (at least, out of the box). Fortunately, this group exists, so I was able to know what I was in for BEFORE purchasing the unit. I guess I say this because I've been amazed by a very small number of people's semi-maniacal use of this board, and the warmth and generosity the regular group members show in response. You guys have more patience than Mother Theresa (certainly more patience than me). And certainly a lot more patience and knowledge than the HP employees who actually get paid to help end users. Just wanted to give my kudos to this group, I'm sure I will have some questions once I get this thing set up... Though I'm sure I'll waste a lot of paper experimenting too!
